![]() ![]() Now, years later the same acoustical engineering magic that made some of the biggest hits in the world has been captured in a patented technology that fits in the palm of your hand. King, Paul McCartney, Willie Nelson, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Barbara Streisand, Neil Young, and many more. Due to its breakthrough acoustical design and engineering, the Power Station Studios in NYC became the facility of choice for artists including Madonna, AC/DC, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, The Beach Boys, Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey, Eric Clapton, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, Whitney Houston, Billy Joel, B.B. The man is Tony Bongiovi, who, in 1977 built the world’s most famous recording studio: Power Station. The magic that drives our incredible technology actually comes from the long legacy of a man, a studio and dozens of the most talented artists that ever lived. So there may be something to his system(s). I'm not sure if he's right or not, since I haven't tried it, and I have to admit, Burwen is an extremely bright, well-educated guy. noted engineer Dick Burwen has been working on something called Audio Splendor and the Burwen Bobcat for several years, and claims both will help get better sound from computer-based audio systems (especially MP3's). They definitely were not a replacement for surround speakers, which is what QSound and SRS claimed to be (for a time). Most of the time, it just sounded different, not better, and a lot of the time, it just sounded odd. Having tried all of them, I felt all of them were hooey and mumbo jumbo, and had unpredictable effects on certain signals depending on the original content and how hard you yanked on the settings. It seemed like every five minutes, somebody was coming out with some "magic sound enhancer" that essentially claimed to make everything sound clearer, or better, or bigger. I'm reminded of QSound, the Aphex Aural Exciter, SRS, and all that other jazz from the 1980s. ![]()
